This was made known by one of the contract workers engaged for the programme
Five months after President Muhammadu Buhari approved the release of funds for the payment of itinerant workers engaged under the Special Public Works Programme, the full payment of their salaries have just been recently paid.
This was made known by one of the contract workers engaged for the programme chaired by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo.
In June 2021, the worker, who spoke on condition of anonymity, had reached out to SaharaReporters lamenting the lack of payment of his stipends three months after completing the contract.
Shortly after SaharaReporters published the story, the young man said he and his colleagues had been paid in full.
He said, “After SaharaReporters' story, I received my payment in full likewise my colleagues. Thank you very much.”
In January 2021, the Nigerian Government flagged off the 774,000 jobs, with each participant expected to receive N20,000 monthly for the three months of the contract.
