"She was released at about 5:30pm yesterday, 22nd August, 2021 and has since reunited with her family.

"Mama was not given hard treatment, the kidnappers took care of her but just that she was not allowed to leave early as expected," Ebi said.

However, the SSG, Rt. Hon. Konbowei Benson, expressed gratitude to God for the safe return of his mother, while thanking the general public for standing by him during the trying times.

Konbowei specially appreciated the efforts of the security agencies for ensuring the safe rescue of his mother from the den of kidnappers.

The Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Echeng Eworo Echeng, who confirmed the release of Mrs. Betinah to the press, said it took the combined efforts of members of the public and security agents to achieve it.

He said no ransom was paid even but the SSG had said "a token gift of N4 million and two android phones” were given to the kidnappers.

SaharaReporters had earlier reported that Madam Kombowei, 86, was kidnapped by some hoodlums who invaded her residence at Old Assembly quarters, Azikoro Road, Yenagoa in military uniforms.

She was kidnapped around 8pm on July 20, 2021.
