Suspected Kidnappers Attack Ogun Police Checkpoint, Cart Away Rifle

The incident occurred on Sunday at about 3:11am when the assailants attacked the police officers who were on duty.

Policemen at a checkpoint on Obasanjo-Itẹle road, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State were attacked by suspected armed hoodlums who escaped with an AK-47 rifle.

The attackers were believed to be suspected kidnappers.  
The police team was led by one ASP Nasiru Azeez with Inspector Olabisi Lawrence and Inspector Atari Friday, Punch reports.
A reliable source said Friday sustained injury on his head as the hoodlums also snatched his AK-47 rifle and made away with it.
According to the source, the AK-47 rifle with Breach No. 804611, was “carted away with 30 rounds of live ammunition.” 
While the injured police officer was conveyed to State Hospital, Ota for treatment, the police were said to be making efforts to retrieve the lost rifle. 
Several attempts to get reaction from the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, failed as he could be reached as of the time of filing this report.
