Police Arrest Three Ogun Residents For Killing 22-Year-Old Over Alleged Phone Theft

A statement from the command's spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed that the three suspects; Felix Sunday, Shomuye Musa and Oluwatobi Michael tortured the victim on an allegation of stealing an iPhone 6.

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested three young men for torturing one Tunji George to death on allegation of stealing.

A statement from the command's spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed that the three suspects; Felix Sunday, Shomuye Musa and Oluwatobi Michael tortured the victim on an allegation of stealing an iPhone 6.

The police added, “The suspects were arrested following a report by one Bola George who reported at Onipanu Divisional Headquarters that her brother was alleged to have stolen a iPhone 6 at Keke hotel in Iyana Iyesi Ota, consequent upon which the deceased was tied with rope in the hotel and tortured to death.

“Having realised that the victim was about giving up the ghost, the suspects quickly rushed him to the hospital, but before they got to the hospital, the victim has kicked the bucket.”

The Divisional Police Officer, Bamidele Job, immediately mobilised his men to the scene and apprehended two of the suspects while the remaining one was arrested in the hotel.

On interrogation, the suspects told the police that they strongly suspected the deceased was the person who stole the iPhone 6, and in order to recover the said phone from him, they decided to torture him not knowing that it would result to his death.

The corpse of the victim has been deposited at the general hospital mortuary Ota for an autopsy.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.

Bankole also warned that the command under his leadership would not tolerate any form of jungle justice and whoever engaged in such act, no matter his status or position, would not be spared from the punishment of the law.
