His abduction comes after the former banker kicked off his governorship campaign in Onitsha
The National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Aburre has called on the electorate in Anambra State to vote for the party's governorship candidate in Friday's election, Obiora Agbasimalo, despite being missing.
The politician was reportedly kidnapped on Saturday, September 18, while leaving a campaign ground at Ezinifitte, Nnewi South Local Government Area.
He was said to be going to Azhia in the Ihiala Local Government Area of the state.
His abduction comes after the former banker kicked off his governorship campaign in Onitsha, the economic hub of the state.
Meanwhile, the emergence of Agbasimelo as the governorship candidate for the party in the November 6 governorship election in Anambra was was followed by an internal crisis in the party.
The crisis threw up a faction in the party.
One of the leading aspirants at the beginning of the governorship race, Nnamdi Nnoruka, was allegedly kidnapped by unknown persons and forced to withdraw from the contest.
Speaking at the party's final campaign on Thursday, Aburre said voters need to “shine their eyes” in the November 6 governorship election and appoint someone who has shown care to them with his personal resources.
He boasted that the Labour party would win the election to bring meaningful governance to the state.
According to him, the party was not demoralised despite having its candidate in kidnappers' den.
“We are not deterred by continuous disappearance of our candidate because we trust God to bring him back to us after his victory come November 6.
“The goodwill of the people towards our candidate and his philanthropic gestures will hold sway for him to come serve the people as he had indicated interest,” he said.
Aburre claimed it is only the Labour Party that can provide good governance in the state, noting that some other parties that were in had failed the people.
“We are going to change the narrative, no propaganda, all political appointments in the state must be shared equally amongst the three senatorial zones of the state.” he said.
Aburre said other contenders in the race are afraid of the intimidating credentials of its candidate despite the fact that his whereabouts have been unknown since he was taken.
He expressed confidence that the party's candidate would be victorious on Saturday.
