Yayari, who is the Special Assistant to the senator on New Media, was arrested and detained at the State Police Headquarters on Monday.
Muhammad Adamu Yayari, an aide to Senator Danjuma Goje, was on Tuesday remanded in police custody by a Chief Magistrates' Court over his Facebook post about the resignation of some ward executives of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area in Gombe State.
Yayari, who is the Special Assistant to the senator on New Media, was arrested and detained at the State Police Headquarters on Monday.
His detention followed a petition against him by the Secretary of the APC in the state, Abubakar Umar S. Goro.
According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), Yayari allegedly published injurious falsehood against the executives of the APC in Yamaltu/Deba council area chapter of the party on Facebook.
He was said to have posted it on November 25.
The counsel for the state government, Ramatu Ibrahim Hassan, read the police Fir.
She said the accused intended to harm the reputation of the ward executives with the post by saying 80 percent of them had left their positions.
She also told the court that Yayari has caused a disturbance, thereby contradicting Sections 393 and 114 of the Penal Code Law.
However, Yayari pleaded not guilty to the accusations and the defence counsel, Sa’idu Mu’azu Kumo and A. B. El-Ibrani applied for his bail.
But the state counsel, Hassan objected to the bail application, saying releasing the accused person will cause injury.
The presiding judge, Chief Magistrate Mohammed Sulaiman Kumo, thereafter, adjourned the case till December 6 to consider the bail application.
He ordered that the Yayari should be remanded in police custody.
According to Daily Trust, Yayari’s detention followed his Facebook post on Thursday, when some ward executives of the APC from the Yamaltu/Deba LGA resigned from their respective positions.
