The cause of the fire could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report but it was learnt that it had been put out through the efforts of firefighters and some residents.

However, structures and goods worth millions of naira were destroyed by the fire, which is the second major fire incident in Bauchi this year.

In February, the popular Bababa Shopping Complex was razed.

Alhaji Murtala Maiyadi, Chairman at the complex told NAN that the fire outbreak destroyed 90 shops and properties worth 50 million.

He said the fire started at 11.30 pm on Friday, February 12, and lasted for six hours.

“Officials of the state fire service came to the scene; then it was only five shops that were down, but could not stop the fire because at the time they had only one truck and the water got finished.

“90 shops were burnt down by the fire outbreak and N50 million worth properties were destroyed,” he had said.
