They thereafter opened fire on the vigilantes after they circled them.
Terrorists locally known as bandits have reportedly gunned down 63 vigilantes, known in local parlance as “Yan sa kai”, in Kebbi State.
It was gathered that the “Yan sa kai” personnel had launched an onslaught against the bandits in the Zuru emirate when the tragic incident happened, according to local sources.
The bandits gained an upper hand over the vigilantes when they ambushed them by climbing some trees along the road leading to their hideout.
They thereafter opened fire on the vigilantes after they circled them.
The Yan sa kai men hailed from various towns and villages of the emirate.
All those who were killed were buried Monday evening, eyewitnesses added.
There is no official confirmation of the tragic incident as of the time of filing this report.
