The Lagos State government had suspended the activities of NURTW in the state.
The Lagos State Government has debunked reports that it approved the appointment of Musiliu Akinsanya, aka MC Oluomo as the General Manager of the Lagos State Parks and Garages Committee.
This was contained in a statement issued by Gboyega Akosile, Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor, Babajide Sanwoolu.
A report had circulated online quoting MC Oluomo's son, King West who posted on Instagram that his father had been appointed General Manager of the Lagos State Parks and Garages Committee.
Debunking the report in the statement, Akosile urged the general public to disregard such as he noted that the position of the government has not changed from details of a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, announcing the suspension of activities of NURTW in all parks and garages in the state.
He said: "Please disregard post(s) claiming that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has appointed suspended Chairman of NURTW, MC Oluomo as GM, Lagos Transport Parks and garages committee. There's no such appointment.
"The statement issued yesterday by Mr Gbenga Omotoso, Hon Commissioner for Information and Strategy, remains the position of government.”
The Lagos State government had suspended the activities of NURTW in the state.
There has been a crisis in the Union for some weeks which culminated in the suspension of the Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the union, MC Oluomo, by the national body.
Following his suspension, MC Oluomo announced the withdrawal of the state chapter of the union from the national body and asked the state government to take over the affairs of the union in its domain.
The police command in the state on Thursday also beefed up security in readiness for any violence that may arise as a fall-out from the crisis.
In a statement on Thursday night by Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, the government announced the suspension of the activities of NURTW in the state.
It said, “After considering the provisions of the law, the Government hereby suspends the activities of NURTW, which must cease to operate in all parks and garages in Lagos State. The Government will set up a Committee to immediately take control of the parks and garages. Members of the committee will be key stakeholders in the sector.
“The Government’s position is premised on its responsibility to ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order in all parks and garages in Lagos State."
