Jigawa Islamic Police, Hisbah, Confiscates 1,426 Bottles Of Alcoholic Beverages, Arrest 15 During Raid On Beer Parlours

The command seized a 25-litre jerrican of local beer, popularly called “burukutu”.


No fewer than 1,426 bottles of assorted alcoholic beverages have been confiscated by operatives of the Jigawa Hisbah Board in Jigawa during a raid on drinking joints and hotels in two local government areas of the state.

 

This was made known by the Hisbah commander in the state, Ibrahim Dahiru while speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday.

According to him, the command seized a 25-litre jerrican of local beer, popularly called “burukutu”.

 

He further said 15 suspects, including a woman, were apprehended in the raids.

 

On April 3, the Hisbah operatives seized 177 bottles of assorted beer, 25 litres of burukutu while 14 suspects were arrested during a raid on three beer parlours and a hotel in the Gumel local government area.

 

He said, “The Hisbah raided three beer parlours in Gumel LGA namely Awala Hotel, located on Gujungu road; Sabuwar Sahara, located behind the LG Secretariat; and Gidan Mama Mai Burkutu.

 

“In these raids, we were able to arrest 14 persons, including a woman who sells burukutu.”

 

“In these raids also, we were able to seize 177 bottles of beer and 25 litres of burukutu,” he added.

 

Meanwhile, a month before then, on March 4, the Islamic police seized 1,249 bottles of assorted beer and 143 empty cartons during a raid on a beer parlour in the Takur Aduwa area of Dutse.

 

“On March 4, Hisbah personnel raided Bone beer parlour in Takur Aduwa in Dutse local government area.

 

“During this raid, we confiscated 1,249 bottles of beer, 143 empty cartons, a car with registration number MG 194 XA,” Dahiru noted, saying one person suspected to be the owner of the alcoholic drinks was also arrested.

 

The commander, who enjoined residents to be law-abiding, said all the items and suspects were handed over to the police for further action.

 

The Hisbah commander further emphasised that consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited across the state.

 

He, however, commended residents for their support and cooperation with the board, assuring that the command would continue to fight against immoral acts and social vices in all parts of the state.
