The local government Chairman, Aliyu Dantani, who confirmed the incident on Wednesday in Sokoto, said the incident occurred on Tuesday evening.
He explained that of the 26 recovered corpses, 21 were women while five were children.
However, the council boss stated that the local government could not immediately ascertain the number of casualties as a search was ongoing.
