Some House of Representatives aspirants contesting on the platform of the All Progressives Congress have accused members of the panel 1 screening committee led by Chinedu Eluemunoh of extortion.
The APC had on Saturday inaugurated chairmen and secretaries of respective screening committees for its House of Representatives, Senate and Governorship aspirants ahead of its primaries for the 2023 general elections later this month.
According to the National Organizing Secretary of the party, Sulaiman Argungu, the exercise for the screening of aspirants would start on the same day.
He had stated that the screening for the House of Representatives' aspirants would take place at Zeus Paradise Hotel, Abuja by 2.00 pm while the one for Senate and Governorship aspirants would take place on Sunday at Fraser Suites at 10.00 am.
The screening for aspirants vying for the House of Representatives was divided into 10 panels with Eluemunoh as chairman of the 1st panel and Abass Braimah as secretary.
Other members of panel 1 are Chief Bode Sumonu, Hon. Patrick Nwokike and Hon. Nadu Karibo.
Some of the aspirants told SaharaReporters that members of the committee insisted they must pay N1m each before the screening.
They added that they were taken to one of the presidential suites in the hotel instead of the hall booked for them at the hotel by the APC National Working Committee.
“The screening panel 1 led Chinedu Eluemunoh with his Secretary, Braimah Abbas who is Adam Oshiomhole’s former Chief of Staff extorted millions of naira from Lagos and Ekiti aspirants,” one of them said.
“They insisted aspirants must pay N1million each before the screening. The minimum amount dropped by Lagos aspirants was N500,000 while those from Ekiti complained but later paid N250,000 each.”
