The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, clarified that the main culprit for the murder which occurred on Admiralty Way Lekki on Thursday evening, was a southerner.

The Lagos State Police Command has stated that the mastermind in the mob which lynched a Lagos State-based sound engineer, Sunday David Umoh, was neither a northerner nor a motorcyclist, otherwise called okada rider, as widely believed.

He tweeted, “Fake news! Why give ethnic colouration to crime? Crime is a crime. A criminal is a criminal. It would shock you to realise that the mastermind of the lynching is not even a motorcycle owner/rider and guess what, he’s a southerner. My point is, ‘dead’ the stereotypes.”

Also while reacting to how the police had made Lagos safe, Benjamin said, “True. And that is why we’ve been recruiting 10,000 officers per year. That’s the rate approved by the government for now. Sadly, yearly retirement and death in service reduce the number again. Nonetheless, we forge ahead. Target in sight.”
Recall that late Sunday-David Umoh, a member of Legacy 360 band, was lynched and set ablaze by a mob in Lekki.
David's friends who were also victims of the attack, Phillip Balogun and Frank, are still lying unconscious in the hospital.
