SaharaReporters had on Sunday reported that Obanla, a cleric with an Anglican Church in Ondo State, was picked with his son by the gang of gunmen.
A source, who confirmed the incident in a terse message, had said the suspects waylaid the father and son, before dragging them into a thick forest in Ifon.
Meanwhile, Ms. Funmilayo Odunlami, the Spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, who confirmed the release of the duo, said they were released unhurt.
She added that the police were still on the trail of the kidnappers, who are currently in locations between Ondo and Edo states.
"They were released around 12:30pm yesterday (Monday) in Edo State," Odunlami added.
The kidnappers had demanded the sum of N10million as a ransom before the cleric and his son could be freed.
The family later offered N1million but the money was rejected by the hoodlums, who repeatedly threatened to kill the victims if the ransom was not complete.
However, it was not yet clear how much the family later raised the money to free the Anglican cleric and his son.
As of the time of filing his report, the family members of the cleric are yet to respond to inquiries.
