Nigeria Civil Defence, NSCDC Operatives Grumble Over Non-payment Of Ekiti Gov Election Allowance 2 Weeks After, May Boycott Osun Poll

They alleged that most of them were not given accommodation in Ekiti, yet risked their lives day and night to ensure adequate security during the governorship election.

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) deployed from other states to Ekiti for the June 18, 2022 governorship election are grumbling over the alleged refusal of the authorities to pay their allowances.

The NSCDC had deployed 9,747 personnel drawn from the Federal Capital Territory, Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Kogi, Kwara and Edo commands to provide security during the governorship poll.

Some of the aggrieved officers told SaharaReporters that the agency had refused to pay them two weeks after the election, while their counterparts from other security agencies received theirs, which fuelled suspicion of embezzlement.

They alleged that most of them were not given accommodation in Ekiti, yet risked their lives day and night to ensure adequate security during the governorship election.

The officers vowed to boycott the July 16 governorship poll in Osun State if the authorities fail to pay them their allowances.

“Two weeks after the governorship election in Ekiti state was conducted, officers and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps from Ekiti, Ondo, Edo, Kogi, Osun, Oyo and Lagos who participated in the election are yet to receive their allowance,” an operative told SaharaReporters.

“Our hope was dashed a week after the election was conducted with the hope that the money will drop in our individual accounts.

“The personnel of the Nigeria Police Force got their allowance paid to them on Friday, June 17, a day before the election. There was no official communication as to the reasons for the delay in the payment of this allowance.

“The amount varies from one level to another. Using the police as a model, the least officer that participated got N40,000. Some personnel came from NHQ too including the one mentioned.”

NSCDC spokesperson, Sola Odumosun confirmed the officers were yet to be paid their allowances for the governorship election in Ekiti.

He however said the delay was from the Office of the Accountant-General.

Odumosun who added he was also affected said the Commandant General (CG) of the agency and top officials were doing everything possible to make the authorities release the funds.
