Amid Insecurity, Hunger, Human Rights Violations, Buhari’s Aide, Femi Adesina Boasts President Is ‘Highly Regarded’ Abroad Even If Nigerians Don’t Honour Him

He disclosed this in an article titled, “Buhari in Portugal: A Prophet has no honour in his Country,” which he shared on his official Facebook page on Thursday.

As Nigerians cry out over excruciating hardship occasioned by the harsh economy, insecurity and increasing rise in prices of foodstuffs, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, says President Muhammadu Buhari’s footprints will be indelible on the sands of time.

He disclosed this in an article titled, “Buhari in Portugal: A Prophet has no honour in his Country,” which he shared on his official Facebook page on Thursday.

According to Adesina, Buhari’s strides in infrastructure, agriculture, social investment, and many others will remain evergreen.

He, however, said security is a thorny issue, adding that the government would crack it in the remaining 11 months.

“I’ve seen President Buhari decorated with National Awards across continents, completely unsolicited. And the man remains ever self-effacing, without a single bone of arrogance in his body. Don’t you love to follow a man like this? I sure do,” he said.

“President Buhari’s footprints will be indelible on the sands of time. His strides in infrastructure, agriculture, social investment, and many others will remain evergreen. Security is a thorny issue. I pray he cracks it in the remaining 11 months. As for revisionists, who try to ensure that the administration would be remembered for only massive insecurity that has plagued the land, they will never win. Buhari’s place in history is secure already. Good and honest Nigerians will always remember him for his positive strides, and the world will not forget him either.

“In Spain about four weeks ago, one of the diplomats we had lunch together had said at our table that President Buhari was a man of high integrity, who they respect highly in the West. This has been proven again in Portugal. Grand Collar of the Order of Prince Henry. So, again, let’s ‘buga’ for Mr President, ‘go-low-low-low buga won.’”

Despite being a former Army General, the level of insecurity under Buhari’s administration has worsened with virtually all parts of the country currently battling one form of violent crime or another.

The Global Terrorism Index (2019) ranked Nigeria as the third-worst nation prone to terrorism with no improvement since 2017.

Aside from insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and secessionist violence are pushing Nigeria toward the brink of collapse with many calling for the resignation of the President for his administration’s failure to secure the country.

Using security operatives, the Buhari-led government is also known for harassing, assaulting and intimidating journalists, human rights activists, protesters and critics of the government.

The government has also shown hostility to Nigerian judges and indifference or outright disobedience to court judgments and orders, thereby seriously undermining their standing and authority, and the notion of access to justice.

Buhari has literally normalised disobedience to court orders, and state-sanctioned brutality against peaceful protesters.

The administration also continues to violate human rights with impunity.
