During the trial, the prosecutor asserted that Namusa accosted two women (names withheld), both wives of one Alhaji Shehu, while they were coming from a river where they went to fetch water.

“While holding a dummy gun, he released one of them because of the baby she was carrying on her back but took the other into the bush to have carnal knowledge of her before he was arrested by the community,” the charge sheet added.

The police also informed the court that during an investigation into the matter, the defendant admitted to the charge.

The prosecutor, Abubakar Issa, urged the court to remand the suspect because the offences were not ordinarily bailable.

Hence, Magistrate Issa ruled that the defendant should be remanded till the next adjourned date, July 14.
