Shari’ah Court Sentences Three Men To Death By Stoning For Homosexuality In Bauchi

The convicts were identified as Abubakar Beti, 30; Kamilu Ya’u, 20 and Mal Haruna 70, all residents of Ningi, headquarters of Ningi local government area of the state.

A Shari’ah Court sitting in Bauchi State has sentenced three men to death by stoning for engaging in homosexuality.

The convicts were identified as Abubakar Beti, 30; Kamilu Ya’u, 20 and Mal Haruna 70, all residents of Ningi, headquarters of Ningi local government area of the state.

The court found them guilty of violating section 134 of Bauchi State penal law of 2001 as well as the provisions of Fiquhussunah Jizu’i number 2, page 362, Independent reports.

The case started on June 14, 2022 when members of the Hisbah Vanguard operating in the Ningi area through Adamu Dan Kafi, prosecuted the three offenders at the Shari’ah Court.

The Hisbah Vanguard had informed the court that the three men were arrested while committing the offence of homosexuality at Gwada village in Ningi.

After listening to the prosecution and offence against them, the trial Sharia judge, Munka’ilu Sabo Ningi, adjourned the case to Wednesday, June 29, 2022, for Judgement.

After the trial process and submissions from both parties, the trial judge, Munka’ilu Sabo Ningi, convicted and sentenced the defendants to death by stoning.

 

In July 2021, SaharaReporters reported that the Kano State Hisbah Board arrested five men suspected of engaging in homosexuality at Sheka Barde in the Kumbotso local government area of Kano.

 

The Board said the matter would be taken to the Shari’ah Court in Kano but SaharaReporters could not get the update on it at the time of filing this report.
