Sources told SaharaReporters that six policemen attached to 28 PMF Umuahia and Counter Terrorist Unit base 4 Aba were escorting the bullion Van conveying cash from a new Generation Commercial Bank in Aba to Umuahia, and on getting to the Ntigha junction, armed robbers who had laid ambush struck the convoy.
The armed robbers opened fire at the Bullion Van causing the vehicle to swerve into the bush where the Bank Cash Officer was shot dead by the hoodlums. The driver, however, escaped, one of the sources said.
Unfortunately for the hoodlums, during a gun duel that ensued with the police escorts, one of them was neutralised and his AK 47 rifle with ammunition laden in three magazines strapped together was recovered.

Three of the escort men sustained gunshot injuries and were subsequently rushed to the hospital.

The Abia Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Geoffery Ogbonna, while confirming the incident, said the remains of the victims had been deposited at a nearby mortuary.

He, however, appealed to the public and proprietors of medical facilities in and outside the state to report any person (s) seen or presented with suspected gunshot injuries to the police or any other security agency.
