Saharareporters learnt that the terrorists in large numbers riding on motorcycles stormed Jauro Manu in the Gassol Local Government Area and fired gunshots at traders indiscriminately.

The Taraba command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), on Tuesday, confirmed that terrorists invaded Jauro Manu village in the state, killing five persons, injuring scores and kidnapping six others.

Saharareporters learnt that the terrorists in large numbers riding on motorcycles stormed Jauro Manu in the Gassol Local Government Area and fired gunshots at traders indiscriminately.

It was learnt they also abducted six persons as traders abandoned their wares and fled into a nearby bush.

It was further gathered that the latest attack was the third on the village in one month, which had claimed the lives of 12 persons.

The spokesperson for the NSCDC in Taraba, Godwin Peter said, "Four persons were gunned down instantly, while the fifth fatality was recorded the following day.”

"Of course, because they fired indiscriminately into the market, we expect that casualty would ordinarily rise as the days go by,” he added.

In another attack on Sunday, 14 travellers were reportedly abducted at Bembel by bandits along Mutumbiyu-Wukari Road in the same Gassol Local Government Area at about 2 pm.

The bandits, also operating on motorcycles were said to have blocked the highway at Benbel village, abducted some travellers and looted property. Four vehicles including a truck were left at the scene of the incident.

A brother of one of those abducted said the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N30 million from his family.

Banditry activities have become a recurring decimal in Taraba State, as nearly a day passes by without an attack.

Saharareporters reported on Monday, August 1, 2022, that gunmen suspected to be Islamic terrorists killed Udeng Ibrahim Yamusa, the traditional ruler of Yukuben chiefdom in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The terrorists also killed his driver, who happened to be his son.
