Gunmen have killed the father of an Owerri-based Newspoint Newspaper journalist, Hamilton Onuchukwu.

It was gathered that the incident occurred last Friday in the Orlu Local Government Area of the Imo State where some gunmen have been causing terror.

The assailants invaded the victim's country home, Okporo. They broke into his home around 8 pm and shot the aged Onuchukwu at close range.

Hamilton, while narrating the incident to Daily Post on the phone, said the two-member gang riding on a motorcycle shot the 82-year-old retired police officer in the chest.

The journalist said he could not say whether the gunmen were members of the Southeast Security Outfit codenamed Ebubeagu or part of the unknown gunmen that have been terrorising the state and the entire Southeast region.

Hamilton, who expressed the pain of his father's death in tears, said that he suddenly developed cardiac problems after the killing of his father.

“I love my father so much. I was too close to him. My father was in our compound at Ubaha Okporo Community on the fateful day when two boys riding on a motorcycle arrived and shot him at point-blank range. It happened at about 8:00 pm.

“I’m suspecting some persons. He was an ex-policeman. The hoodlums shot him in three places. I feel like taking my life. Do you know that I developed cardiac problems since after his demise?”

Hamilton said he reported the murder of his father to the anti-kidnapping unit of the Imo State Police Command and the Public Relations Unit of the command.

However, the police spokesperson, Micheal Abattam, had yet to respond to the incident as of the time of filing this report.
