Alumnus Of Nigerian University, FUTA, Awoyinfa Opeoluwa Accused Of Drugging, Raping, Filming Assault On 500 Level Student Of Same Varsity

The suspect, Opeoluwa was reported to be an executive member of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Ondo State.

An alumnus of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, identified as Awoyinfa Opeoluwa has been accused of drugging, raping and blackmailing a 500-level female student from the Department of Animal, Production & Health, whose identity has not been revealed.

 

 

 

The suspect, Opeoluwa was reported to be an executive member of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Ondo State.

 

According to posts made by @SamzyVG on Twitter, where the issue is trending, the suspect has been arrested and detained at Wesco Police Station, FUTA Northgate, Akure.

 

 

 

The tweets read: "RAPE: An Alumnus of the Federal University of Technology Akure identified as Awoyinfa Opeoluwa who is also a NANS Executive has been accused of drugging, Raping and Blackmailing a 500L female student from the department of Animal, Production & Health.

 

 

 

"The victim who proceeded to arrest the accused & had the Suspect detained at Wesco Police Station, FUTA Northgate Akure. Reportedly the Victim demanded for Compensation of #10,000,000 naira due to Damages out of the Court premises to settle the case.

 

 

 

"Reportedly she was Paid a Sum of #300,000 naira Compensation while the Suspect was granted Bail and allowed to Go home."

Also, another tweet made by @FutaBro described as "Full story posted on our Whatsapp today #futarapestory, said, "OPAINO ALLEGED RAPE CASE NB: You might need to check the word alleged in your dictionary before reacting to this report. This report is based on the victim's accusation and as well as other parties involved in the case aside the accused as he is not reachable as at the time of writing this report.

 

 

 

"Awoyinka Opeoluwa, popularly referred to as Opaino has been accused of rape and being a serial rapist. According to report, he allegedly raped a 500 level student (who's identity is unknown yet as at the time of reporting).

 

 

 

"He allegedly drugged, raped, filmed and blackmailed her with the video. So according to our source "It happened 3 days ago, he and the girl (accuser) were in his house and he tried having sex but she didn't agree. The girl is in 500L SAAT, so he drugged, raped and filmed her.

 

 

 

"This is not the first time I'm hearing about him involved in case like this but it has always been silenced because he is associated with FUTA. He has always video and blackmail them with the video if they want to report to the police.

 

 

 

"But this one did not keep quiet but went to arrest him in his house with police and other agencies. She demanded for 10 million as compensation and after series of begging they reduced to 300k."

 

The account further said, "An insider from the police station after several plea to discuss about it said ‘Somehow some fetish stuff were caught in his home and the police took a mugshot of him with the stuff. So the case levelled against that your student is Rape and Ritualism’. I would inform later on the case if there is any update."

However, the university in a statement in reaction to the incident titled, "FUTA Reacts To Alleged Rape Case Involving An Alumnus," which was posted on its official Facebook page, said the facts of the case were still sketchy.

 

 

 

Although the university said the incident has not been formally reported, it was engaging with relevant security agencies through the Dean of Students Affairs and its security unit to get to the root of the matter.

 

 

 

The statement reads, "The attention of the Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA has been drawn to a story trending on the social media of an alleged rape case said to involve a former alumnus and a year 5 student. The fact of the case is not known to the University yet and a formal report has not been made to the University. However, the University states its abhorrence of and total condemnation of such act.

 

 

 

"As a first step, the University, through its security Unit and the Office of the Dean of students affairs, is engaging with the relevant security agency to get the facts of the case so that appropriate action could be taken. The student involved will also be traced and supported."
