Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri accused Binani, who is the only female senator from northern Nigeria, of diverting N20 million conditional cash transfer money released by the federal government to support poor people. She allegedly channelled the money to her campaign funds.

Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, popularly known as Binani, has been accused of diverting N20 million of the Nigerian government's intervention funds, meant for poor and vulnerable people, to support her campaign.

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri accused Binani, who is the only female senator from northern Nigeria, of diverting N20 million conditional cash transfer money released by the federal government to support poor people. She allegedly channelled the money to her campaign funds.

The spokesperson for the governor, Humwashi Wonosikou disclosed this in a statement, saying the All Progressives Congress (APC) female governorship candidate had hijacked a federal government social investment programme to promote her ambition.

He said, "Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has reiterated that he will not be distracted by the opposition and its agents in Adamawa using window-dressing empowerment to hoodwink the public, saying that hijacking any state government initiative in partnership with the FG as done penultimate Monday by the APC in Adamawa state is laughable and unfortunate.

"The APC in Adamawa claimed to organize the 20,000 naira conditional cash transfer to the poorest of the poor, which is the social welfare programme of the FG.

"Nobody can use lies to deceive the people of Adamawa state again, as everyone knows about the FG's social welfare scheme. I will not be distracted by Binani and APC shenanigans.

"It is laughable that Adamawa APC, which boasted of popularity, could hide under the initiative of the FG to claim glory on what it knows nothing about," he said.

However, the coordinator of Binani empowerment programme, Safwan Abdallah, denied any wrongdoing.

Instead, he accused the state government of denying them the right to use a public building to distribute money to 1,000 women.

Abdallah said, "The programme was aimed at empowering over 1,000 women and the vulnerable across the 21 local government areas of the state.

"Binani only facilitated the distribution as a Senator of Adamawa Central Zone to alleviate the suffering of the people.

"It was uncivilized for the government to lock up the place just because of politics."

The National Social Investment Programme of Nigeria is a social welfare initiative created by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in 2015 under the direction of the National Social Investment Office. The programme, which has gulped billions of naira, has been marred by allegations of corruption.
