Another Nigerian Polytechnic Vows To Suspend Students With Tinted Cars, Dark Eyeglasses, Dreadlocks, Others

The authorities of the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) in Lagos State have threatened to suspend any student who brings a tinted glass car into the school for one semester while the vehicle will also be impounded.

It also listed sanctions for a wide range of fashion choices common amongst students.

The school management vowed to suspend students wearing tattered jeans; tattoos; nose, mouth, eye (extra) ring; backless cloth, bump shorts, short and skimpy cloth and ‘crazy’ hairstyles for men; earrings for men, cowries for women; among others.

It also banned pregnant students and nursing mothers from hostels and bringing from babies to classrooms and hostels.

Wearing of bathroom slippers to class, library, offices was also prohibited except for medical reasons.

The polytechnic joins other Nigerian higher institutions such as Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, Bayero University Kano (BUK), University of Ilorin, University of Lagos, Lagos State University and others that have in the past released dress codes for male and female students.
