Nigerian security forces on Thursday rescued 69 kidnapped victims in Bauchi State, SaharaReporters learnt.

The victims are from Toro, Tafawa Balewa, Ningi and Alkaleri local government areas of the state.

Security forces comprising the police, military and operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) reportedly took counterterrorism operations to terrorists’ enclaves, according to the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Abdulrazaq Zaki.

While briefing journalists on Thursday, the commissioner reassured that the administration of Governor Bala Mohammed was committed to flushing out criminal elements in the state.

“We enlisted the help of the authorities and the vigilantes; without fear, we moved into the woods to face the bandits. They ran, but our men kept pressing forward.

“Sixty-nine (69) of the kidnapped people held in Bauchi were rescued. The dislodging of the bandits will be a great relief to those who have been terrorised.

“Recently, we’ve seen an influx of foreigners into the state, bringing camels and cattle with them. They entered the Lame Burra jungle. The government dispatched security officers and officials to question them about their mission. They will be permitted to stay if they are good individuals. If, however, they turn out to be nasty individuals or criminals, we'll send them away.”
