Gunmen Attack Osun State First Lady’s Convoy, Cause Panic In Ede Town

The convoy of Kafayat, the wife of the Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, has been reportedly attacked by hoodlums.

The First Lady’s convoy was attacked on Friday night in Owode area, Ede town, according to Punch.

Ede is also the hometown of the governor-elect and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate in the recent election, Ademola Adeleke.

Although details of the incident were still hazy, sources in Owode, Ede, the scene of the incident, claimed that Mrs. Oyetola's convoy was travelling to Osogbo and was in the area of Owode Market when intermittent gunshots were heard on Friday night at 8pm.

Alayande, a resident revealed on Saturday that a truck had caused a traffic obstruction when the convoy arrived at the Owode market crossroads.

“It was while trying to make the truck driver to move that altercation ensued between security men attached to the convoy. I heard several gunshots where I stood near the junction. It was dark but there was altercation between security men and some people suspected to be hoodlums,” he said.

The incident caused panic in the area as residents scampered to safety.

As of the time this story was filed, Yemisi Opalola, spokesman for the Osun police command, has not replied to a text message regarding the situation.

However, Oluwatunmise Iluyomade, the First Lady's information officer, claimed that the convoy was attacked.
