Gunmen Kill Police Officer Guarding Bank In Lagos, Steal Rifle

A mobile police officer attached to a new generation bank in Coker-Aguda, Surulere area of Lagos has been killed by gunmen.

The incident which happened on Wednesday forced businesses in the area to close early to ensure the safety of lives and property.

The policeman was said to be leaving the bank located on Enitan Street in the area when the gunmen shot him in the neck at close range.

The gunmen also stole the rifle of the deceased police officer. 

 

The policeman was first taken to Randle General Hospital but was rejected there due to the severity of his condition. He was later rushed to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) in Idi-Araba, Mushin where he was confirmed dead.

Lagos State Police Command spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the incident.

Hundeyin said efforts have been intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects.

“He was guarding a bank but the incident didn’t happen at the bank; he had left and was going somewhere inside a tricycle.

“He actually hired the tricycle and was the only passenger. He was attacked, shot and his service pistol taken away. It happened in the afternoon around 3 pm. He later died in the night. Nobody has been arrested but efforts are on to that end,” he said.
