Our London Visit, Discussions For The Interests Of Nigerians – Nyesom Wike Claims After Returning With Other Junketing Governors
August 26, 2022

The governors who returned to Port Harcourt on Friday from London had met separately with Bola Tinubu of the APC, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, and Atiku Abubakar of the PDP.

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and two of his ardent supporters have confirmed attending political meetings in London.

However, they claimed that the meeting was in Nigeria's best interests.

The governors who returned to Port Harcourt on Friday from London had met separately with Bola Tinubu of the APC, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, and Atiku Abubakar of the PDP.

SaharaReporters had on Wednesday and Thursday reported that Wike, Governors Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Samuel Ortom of Benue met with prospective presidential candidates from several political parties in Nigeria.

Wike had received the support of Ikpeazu, Makinde and Ortom in his bid to represent the People's Democratic Party in the 2023 presidential election. But he was defeated by Atiku Abubakar.

Despite their continued membership in the PDP, the governors have declined to publicly proclaim their support for Atiku in the upcoming presidential election.

Wike said that the discussions they held were in the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians in a video put out by the Rivers State Government and quoted by Premium Times.

The governor said, “What we are talking about is for the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians. It is not parochial, being centred on one person or group of persons; we believe that what is going on will be for the interest of Nigeria at the end of the day."

Wike claimed that no decisions had been made and that negotiations were still underway. "Never mind some people who do not believe in the existence of this country," he advised Nigerians.

“The only identity they have in this country is religion and ethnicity, nothing more. It’s either, I’m a Christian or I’m a Muslim, I’m a Fulani or I’m an Igbo. Nigeria cannot move forward except they think it will be them. That’s where we are.

“We are in a country where someone with a primary school certificate can be appointed minister of foreign affairs. That tells you how bad this country has become.

“But with our consultations, all these will be a thing of the past. No amount of intimidation or blackmail will deter us. We are determined to right the wrong.”

He did not give their names, but he described them as individuals who only care about themselves, "people who only know how to produce their own children as governors or members of the National Assembly.”
