Gunmen suspected to be Islamic militants have reportedly killed a middle-aged woman identified as Lyop Dalyop at Bagai village in Bachi District.

The district is in the Riyom local government area of Plateau State.

According to Tribune, the victim was killed when she went to clean up her church premises along with other church workers on Saturday in preparation for Sunday (today) service.

It quoted an eyewitness as saying that the terrorists shot her in the head shortly after she returned from the exercise at Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), Bangai.

The terrorists, according to the eyewitness, had been lurking within the vicinity until they shot her while she was about to enter her house.

Unfortunately, before those within the vicinity could fully realise what happened, the assailants had disappeared, leaving the woman in a pool of blood.

It was learnt that farmers in most villages in the local government area hardly go to their farms for fear of being attacked by the gunmen who have made life miserable for the people.

“There are several instances where farmers have been attacked on their farms by these elements suspected to be militia. Presently, our farmers go to their farms in groups for fear of being attacked,” the source said.

Meanwhile, SaharaReporters called the mobile line of the spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, Alfred Alabo, several times for confirmation but the calls were not answered.
