Former governor of Kano State, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau on Monday renounced his senatorial candidacy on the platform of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP), Saharareporters can report.

 

Shekarau subsequently defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and collapsed his political structure into the PDP while pledging to work for the party's victory in 2023.

At an ongoing event in his residence in Kano, Shekarau informed PDP supporters that "I have abandoned my candidacy and will not seek election into the Senate on the platform of the NNPP."

He was received by the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, alongside his running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa and the national Charman, Iyorchia Ayu.

 

Other top chieftains of the party at the event include Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, Taraba State governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku, and President Muhammadu Buhari's Senator, Ahmed Babba Kaita, who defected to the PDP one month ago.
