We Have No Agreement Yet With Fulani Herdsmen On Killings, Kidnappings Despite Peace Meeting – Enugu Community

Enugu

Eha-Amufu Community which is located in Isi Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State has been constantly invaded by the armed herdsmen.

The Eha-Amufu community in Enugu State has stated that it had not reached any agreement with Fulani herdsmen, over their alleged criminal activities in the community.

Eha-Amufu Community which is located in Isi Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State has been constantly invaded by the armed herdsmen.

SaharaReporters had reported that since 2021, over 18 community farm settlements have been sacked by the marauding herders with no fewer than 16 persons killed.

It was also reported that Fulani militias had turned the community into kidnapping haven with the abduction of 15 farmers last month being the climax.

Last week after a meeting at the government house with leaders of herdsmen and a committee Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi set up to find a lasting solution to constant attacks, it was announced that the community reached an agreement that Fulani herdsmen and the community would form a joint security taskforce to tackle the invasion.

But the community in statement described such claims as false, adding that no agreement had been reached with the herders.

The statement was signed by Tony Edeh and Louis Ede, Chairman and Secretary of the community’s Peace and Reconciliation Committee, respectively.

According to statement, the community held a meeting with the herders but they have not arrived at any decision yet.

The meeting, according to the statement, was on how “to stop incessant killing of our people, kidnapping and other criminal activities” allegedly by the herders.”

They said the meeting “has not been concluded and no resolution has been taken because we want to involve the government as the community cannot do it alone.”

They argued that reaching any agreement without the involvement of the government would not be in the best interest of the community.

The community therefore urged the public to ignore any claim made “on our behalf as it is not the true position of our discussion.”

The statement said that when the two parties conclude discussion with the involvement of the Enugu State Government, the public will be properly informed of the outcome.
