EXCLUSIVE: Nigerian Police Academy Workers Uncover Corruption Under Commandant, Ahmad, Accuse Him Of Islamisation Agenda, Personalising Institution
September 1, 2022

Some staff members of the institution who spoke to SaharaReporters accused the Assistant Inspector-General of Police of corruption, nepotism and marginalisation.

The Commandant of the Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, Abdurrahman Ahmad, has again been under fire over alleged marginalisation and subtly engaging in an Islamisation agenda.

Some staff members of the institution who spoke to SaharaReporters accused the Assistant Inspector-General of Police of corruption, nepotism and marginalisation.

He was alleged to be victimising personnel based on their religious faith.

They wondered why Ahmad transferred out an Assistant Commissioner of Police who is a Christian from the office of the Director of Works in the institution and replaced him with a Superintendent of Police of the Muslim faith.

“For public offices to operate in line with the Public Service Rules, a leader ought to follow the administrative and establishment, laid down by the extant laws,” a senior police officer told SaharaReporters.

“Unfortunately, in the case of the Academy, under the leadership of Abdurrahman, postings are made favourable only to his Islamic associate which can best be described as forcing square pegs into round holes.

“This is evident as Ahmad transferred out an Assistant Commissioner of Police from the office of the Director of Works that was manned by a Commissioner of Police in the past and replaced him with a Superintendent of Police.

“This act can be seen as a ploy to use the low-ranked SP who will not oppose any of his arbitrary decision and to use him in siphoning monies meant for infrastructural development in the Academy.

“I can confirm that the SP who is junior to the most staff of the department is even afraid of going to the office. It is also odd that the Academy's website is being controlled at the Police Force Headquarters, Abuja. This further unveils the plan of the Police Management team led by the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, to take over the duties of the Police Service Commission and other stakeholders.

“Unknown to the Commandant, the Law establishing the Academy assented to by the President, Section 30 (6) saddled the Admission of Cadets to the Academy's Senate. It is now worrisome that the Admission portal is controlled by the Police Headquarters thus rendering the Academy's ICT Department and the Law useless.”

Another source said, “It's doubtful if the Commandant knows what he is doing. The Police Academy is modelled after Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA), the Defence Headquarters has never hijacked the site of the NDA or doubled the announcement of Admission after the Registrar's publication. In the desperation of the Police Management Team, the Force PPRO announced the sales of admission forms after the Acting Registrar which clearly shows a lack of synergy between the Academy and the FHQ.

“If Abdurrahman's activities are not monitored he will rubbish the institution by sidelining the NUC requirements of admitting applicants to degree programmes. It's disheartening as they see the Academy as other Police Training Colleges.”

SaharaReporters had in the past exposed how Ahmad illegally transferred some Christian personnel out of the institution and replaced them with Muslims.

“Furtherance to the achievement of the mission and vision of his Islamisation agenda once reported by SaharaReporters, the Commandant, AIG Abdurrahman Ahmad, in a transfer signal dated 3rd August 2022 and signed by Christy Cookey (Mrs), the CP in charge of welfare transferred 21 personnel out of which, 16 are Christians and 5 Muslims,” a source had told SaharaReporters.

“Note that the Muslims affected were tagged drunkards and were said to hardly practise Islam. He now replaced them with 14 personnel who are all Muslims, in a country where Federal Character Commission is supposed to always guide when posting personnel.

“This act clearly shows the handwriting on the wall as the mission to Islamise the Academy is almost 90 percent completed if nothing is done to avert the doom that will soon occur in Nigeria.”
