The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has recorded a major setback, following the defection of some party chieftains.

The party chieftains, who left the party, are some major loyalists of a former governor of the state, Abdul Aziz Yari.

The defection may have affected the reconciliatory process between Governor Bello Matawalle and Yari.

“Top APC leaders in Zamfara State, dumped APC for the PDP (Peoples Democratic Party). You’re highly welcome to PDP, a party where its members enjoy freedom of membership,” a member of the PDP posted on Twitter.

Some of the defectors are Bala Mohammed Mairiga, former Special Adviser to Ex-governor Yari; Garba Shanawa, Shanawa APC ward chairman, Isah Magaji, Galadi APC ward chairman and Kabiru Ibrahim, Badarawa ward chairman of the party.

They said their decision to dump the APC was based on the internal crises of the party, lack of internal democracy and total disrespect.
