Terrorist attacks are frequent in northeast and northwest Nigeria, including Kastina.

A Nigerian man identified as Jabir Bello has been left impoverished by a terrorist attack impoverished him and the experience has turned into a beggar.

Bello has had to beg for alms to feed his family since the unpleasant encounter with terrorists.

According to Bello’s friend, a bus he boarded was attacked by terrorists in the Yan Kara Local Government Area of Katsina in 2021. While other passengers were killed and kidnapped, he was fortunate enough to be the only survivor but was left with a disability.

Katsina is the home state of President Muhammadu Buhari but it has not prevented the state from being one of most terrorised in the country by bandits and terrorists.

"Since that incident, he has been begging to eat because he could not walk with that leg again," a source close to Jibir told SaharaReporters.

He continued: "The condition of his leg has become terrible. He cannot afford medication and surgery for his leg to the extent that his leg has started to rot."

Terrorist attacks are frequent in northeast and northwest Nigeria, including Kastina.

According to the research group Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project, bandit militias killed more than 2,600 civilians in 2021, an increase of over 250 percent from 2020.

It said the figure far exceeds civilian fatalities resulting from the Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgencies.

A Nigerian risk analysis group SBM Intelligence said media reports show that 782 people were killed in the northwest region compared with 441 in the northeast over the first three months of this year.

For instance, in July, some terrorists opened fire on President Buhari’s advance convoy deployed ahead of his trip to Daura, Katsina State for Sallah celebrations.

A statement from the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu titled, ‘Gallant Presidential guards repel attack on advance team ahead of President’s visit’.

It, however, added that the terrorists were repelled by the personnel of the military, police and the Department of State Services in the convoy.
