Salako's resignation was made public on Monday, in a statement by the information and strategy commissioner, Gbenga Omotoso.

Following the increasing cases of building collapse in Lagos State, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako has resigned his appointment with the state government.

Salako's resignation was made public on Monday, in a statement by the information and strategy commissioner, Gbenga Omotoso.

His resignation comes less than 48 hours after a seven-storey building collapsed close to Sand field bus stop, in the Lekki area of the state. At least four persons have died in the tragic incident that occurred early Sunday morning.

Omotoso said Salako’s resignation has been accepted by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The statement read, "This is a prelude to the restructuring of the Ministry and its agencies.

"Governor Sanwo-Olu thanks the Commissioner for his services to the State and wishes him success in his future endeavours.

"The Governor warns all players in the sector to respect the law or face the consequences of any indiscretion, no matter who the perpetrators are."

Also, in November 2021, a 21-storey building in Ikoyi collapsed killing about 50 people.
