Gunmen suspected to be Islamic terrorists have reportedly kidnapped the traditional ruler of Pinau community in Plateau, North Central Nigeria.

The incident occurred in the Wase Local Government Area of the state.

The monarch identified as Dauda Mohammed Suleiman was reportedly kidnapped on Monday night by gunmen who rode motorcycles.

According to The PUNCH, Chairman of the Action Democratic Congress in the local council area, Abdullahi Gadole, confirmed the kidnap incident.

Gadole said efforts made by residents to find the monarch have been futile.

“It was yesterday (Monday) that he was kidnapped. They (kidnappers) rode on motorcycles to his house in Pinau community and abducted the traditional ruler. Since then, we have not seen him neither have his abductors contacted anyone to know what they want.

“The residents of the community have continued to look for him but are just left in confusion without knowing what to do about the situation,” he was quoted as saying.

However, when SaharaReporters contacted the spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred, he did not confirm or deny the abduction.

"When I get details from the police on the ground in the area, I will inform the media," he said.
