PDP had been going through immense crisis after its presidential primary election won by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

As the crisis in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepens, the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the party, Senator Walid Jibrin, on Thursday, announced his resignation.

The Second Republic Senator reportedly announced his resignation at the National Executive Council meeting currently going on in Abuja.

PDP had been going through immense crisis after its presidential primary election won by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Governor Nyesom Wike and Atiku fell out after the former lost to the latter in the party’s presidential primary election. The crisis deepened after Atiku picked the Governor of Delta, Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate, shunning advice from some party chieftains that he should pick Wike.

SaharaReporters had reported that Governor Wike’s camp reached an agreement with Atiku's camp during a meeting in London, UK as moves to reconcile the two intensified. It reported that part of the agreement was that the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, would resign his position for a southerner, who will come from Southwest Nigeria.

Shortly after the report, Ayu said he would not resign his position. He described Wike and his fellow governors in the South as “children” and the Rivers governor fired back that the “children” brought the former senator from the gutters and made him the PDP national chairman.

Throwing a jab at Ayu, Wike said his enemies are “small boys”.
