Separatist Group, MASSOB Slams Enugu Governor Ugwuanyi Over Poor Decay, Infrastructure
September 9, 2022

The separatist group urged Enugu residents to use the 2023 elections to flush out criminals and cult members leading the state.

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), has slammed Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State for the level of infrastructural decay in the state.

The pro-Biafra group described the Governor Ugwuanyi as a "hypocritical and colossal failure" who deceive his people with the slogan – 'Enugu is in the hands of God'.

MASSOB in a statement issued on Friday by its state coordinator, Mazi Daniel Onyebuchi, said Ugwuanyi represented hope for Enugu people in 2015 when he was seeking an election, but however, regretted that he has left more rot seven years into his administration.

"Many Infrastructures and social structures were grossly neglected, many projects of his predecessors were either abandoned or neglected with no attention," the statement read.

The separatist group urged Enugu residents to use the 2023 elections to flush out criminals and cult members leading the state.

In the statement titled "The Enugu state governor is a hypocritical and colossal failure," MASSOB said.

It added that after its assessment of the state government, it discovered that the state is at the “mercy of God not just in the hand of God."

It added that the government of Enugu state, led by Ugwuanyi and his political party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has failed the people woefully.

"MASSOB committee on Infrastructural Developments having gone round the capital city of old Eastern region and the heartbeat of Igbo nation, came to the conclusion that PDP and Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi have failed the people of the state, especially in the area of infrastructure, youth empowerment and job creation.

"On resumption of duty as Enugu state governor in 2015, Governor Ugwuanyi appeared as a symbol of hope and a builder. The people of Enugu state rejoiced but seven years later, Gov. Ugwuanyi is leaving the coal city state more dilapidated and rotten. Many Infrastructures and social structures were grossly neglected, many projects of his predecessors were either abandoned or neglected with no attention.

"After seven years of Ugwuanyi administration, he could not repair or renovate the presidential hotel built by the former governor, Senator Jim Nwobodo. The International Conference Center (ICC) that was almost completed by ex-governor Chimaroke Nnamani has received no attention. The Enugu state Secretariat close to State Police headquarters built by his predecessor, Sullivan Chime has been abandoned."

MASSOB added, "Some of the roads in the capital city are in a mess: the new market road roundabout, Gulf Estate garden avenue to mention a few are all the in the mercy of God."

MASSOB recalled that during the administrations of Governors Chimaroke and Sullivan, there was free education for pupils in primary to junior secondary schools in the state.

It noted that regrettably, under Ugwuanyi, education declined.

"The Coal City shuttle bus bought and commissioned by former Governor Chime during his administration is no longer in existence.

"MASSOB advised Enugu youths not to mortgage their destinies because of false promises and monetary inducement by PDP.

"It is shameful and unpatriotic for some political job seekers and paid praise singers in Enugu that always went about saying that Gov Ugwuanyi has done well at the same time calling him white lion.

"MASSOB reiterate our earlier resolution that the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) must be rooted out of Enugu state because they are our major stumbling block to the political emancipation of the people of Ndigbo.

"Ndi Enugu will pay Gov Ugwuanyi back during election by burying PDP."
