Mr. Funso Doherty, the Lagos State governorship candidate of the party disclosed this on Friday while unveiling his running mate, Rosemary Giwa Amu.
The African Democratic Congress has expressed its determination to dislodge the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Lagos State Government House, come 2023.
Mr. Funso Doherty, the Lagos State governorship candidate of the party disclosed this on Friday while unveiling his running mate, Rosemary Giwa Amu.
“The emergence of Barrister Rosemary Giwa Amu reveals a clear preference for Integrity, equity and justice in leadership and governance,” a statement from the party read.
“Mr. Funso Doherty had earlier clinched the ticket of the African Democratic Congress in June 2022. He hails from Lagos Island Local Government and entered the Lagos Gubernatorial race following a very distinguished career spanning almost three decades in the private sector.
“His running mate, Barrister Rosemary Giwa Amu is a long-standing resident of Lagos who was born in present day Delta state. She completed her elementary education before proceeding to secondary education in present day Edo State.”
Reacting to her emergence, the lawyer was quoted as saying, “The Lagos of my youth was a pristine, beautiful, exciting place in which we were free to visit many interesting fun locations, such as the Bar Beach and Love Garden in the Island area and the Apapa Amusement Park, with relative ease and safety at any time of the day, including the late night hours. And, as a young lawyer, I travelled to and from my place of work also as easily and without any fear.
“It was also a Lagos where a housewife could open a kiosk and help out with her children's school fees without having to worry about very high profit-eroding taxes, as we have today.
“But all of that is no more, as our Lagos is now reeling under serious challenges, including high-level insecurity, the decay of critical infrastructure and absence of necessary Social Safety Nets.
“This very important call to service is therefore a great opportunity for me to contribute to turning things around. In this, I am aligning very closely with the commitment and determination of my principal, Funsho Doherty, a man with Lagos deeply etched in his very DNA, to develop and progress Lagos State to its full potential. We will together work assiduously to restore the State to its old glory as a Center of Excellence, tapping on the huge potentials of its diverse peoples, and its abundant but currently latent resources.”
