Some gunmen earlier on Sunday attacked the convoy of Senator Ubah in Enugwu-Ukwu community in the Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Some of his orderlies were reportedly killed during the attack with sources saying six policemen and two of his aides were killed.

Ubah's media aide, Kameh Ogbonna, said Ubah would also have been killed if not for his bulletproof SUV.

Ogbonna stated in a statement, “If not for the bulletproof Jeep (SUV) the Senator was riding in, he would have been dead by now.

"This is an attempt on the Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah.

"We were passing Enugwu Ukwu junction when they hit us front and back from all sides and as I speak with you Obum the Special Aide to the senator is dead and about seven security operatives were hit by the assassins bullet and they may have died," he said.

A video seen by SaharaReporters on Sunday night shows there were about eight corpses; five policemen and three civilians.

However, another source who spoke on condition of anonymity told SaharaReporters that six policemen were killed in the attack.

The spokesman for the state police command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga who confirmed the incident on the telephone said that attack took place at Enugwu-Ukwu, but also said the casualty figure could not be ascertained at the time.

“Yes, there was an attack at Enugwu-Ukwu today, but the casualty figure is not clear. As I speak to you, the CP has personally led a team of men to the scene, and normalcy has been restored,” he said.
