He added that Yar'Adua's true situation was hidden from the public, including the then Vice President, Goodluck Jonathan.

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore has said a former Nigerian President, Umaru Musa Yar'Adua had been brain dead for five months before he was brought to Nigeria from Saudi Arabia.

Sowore disclosed this on Sunday during an interview session with People's Radio in Lagos.

He added that Yar'Adua's true situation was hidden from the public, including the then Vice President, Goodluck Jonathan.

Yar'Adua was later officially declared dead on May 5 and buried the following day.

Sowore said: When Yar'Adua was sick, nobody knew his health status except SaharaReporters. Yar'Adua had been brain dead five months before he was brought to Nigeria. Even the Vice President then did not know. I will reveal to you that some people duped him.

"They went and collected money from him so that they could get Yar'Adua's picture. They went ahead and did photoshop for him. I heard he paid them $500,000," he added.

Yar'adua was the President of Nigeria from 2007 to 2010. He was declared the winner of the Nigerian presidential election held on April 21, 2007, and was sworn in on May 29, 2007.

On February 24, 2010, Yar'Adua returned to Abuja under the cover of darkness but his state of health was shrouded in secrecy.

There was speculation that he was on a life support machine but the government denied this.
