16-Year-Old Boy Whose Eyes Were Plucked Out By Friend Gets Government Scholarship

In June, SaharaReporters reported that Uzairu Salisu of Kwanan Gulmanmu, Jahun quarters in Bauchi metropolis was attacked and his two eyes were plucked out by his friend.

The Bauchi State Government has granted a 16-year-old boy, Uzairu Salisu, whose eyeballs were plucked out by ritualists, a scholarship to advance his western and Islamic education. 

 

In June, SaharaReporters reported that Uzairu Salisu of Kwanan Gulmanmu, Jahun quarters in Bauchi metropolis was attacked and his two eyes were plucked out by his friend.

Ahmed Wakili, the spokesperson for the state police command had said a distress call about the crime was received from Mohammed Lawal, Ward Head of Birshi, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis.

According to a police statement, Uzairu was found in a pool of blood with his eyes plucked out at Dutsen Jira in the Yelwa area of Bauchi.

Ahmed further stated that a team of policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Yelwa went to the scene of the crime and took the victim to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital Bauchi (ATBUTH) for treatment.

Meanwhile, Governor Mohammed has promised to get justice for Uzairu, who pleaded that the evil done to him should be done to his assailants.

The governor, while receiving Uzairu and his parents at the Government House in Bauchi, said “diabolic practice” should stop.

The governor promised to get justice for Uzairu and take full responsibility for his upkeep and education, Channels TV reports.

“We have taken over the responsibility of the education of this young man from Katsina because the calamity that befell him here in Bauchi and because of our culture as a family. 

“Even if we leave the government, my wife and I will take care of all his needs. We assure you that we are going to do everything to make sure that the culprits are punished because he has said that he has not forgiven them, and we have also not forgiven them as a state and as parents so definitely they are going to face the full wrath of the law,” Mohammed said.
