Nigerian Police Kill Two Kidnappers, Rescue Abducted Wife, Daughter Of APC Candidate In Kwara

The incident was the second time in two months recorded in the area.

The Nigeria Police Force, Kwara State command, has confirmed dead two members of a kidnapping group that abducted the wife and daughter of the All Progressives Congress candidate for Malete/ Ipaye/Oloru constituency in the forthcoming 2023 general election, Lawal Ayansola Saliu.

This was confirmed in a statement released on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Ajayi Okasanmi.

It was gathered that on Monday, unknown gunmen stormed Saliu's residence at Oke Ayewu/Shao Expressway in Moro LGA of the state and kidnapped his wife and daughter.

But Saliu, however with the aid of his neighbour, a military officer, escaped with wounds during the attack.

The incident was the second time in two months recorded in the area.

SaharaReporters had earlier reported unknown gunmen struck at a quarry site in the Shao area of Moro Local Government of Kwara State, killing a police officer and abducting a Chinese citizen in June.

Meanwhile, according to the police statement, two of the kidnappers were apprehended in the forest with gunshot wounds and transferred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital Ilorin, where they were pronounced dead.

Okasanmi revealed that their bodies had been placed in the hospital mortuary for autopsies.

Meanwhile, the wife and daughter, Afusat and Taofeek Lawal, who were rescued, have been reunited with their families after being pronounced medically stable.

However, he stated that efforts are still being made to apprehend other fleeing members of the group.
