Residents Flee As Gunmen Storm Delta Community, Shoot Wildly Over Boundary Dispute

There was palpable tension in Aladja community in the Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, as the people of Ogbe-Ijoh community in Warri South-West Local Government Area allegedly invaded the community, shooting indiscriminately.

SaharaReporters gathered that no life was lost but residents say if urgent action is not taken, the situation could get out of hand.

SaharaReporters gathered that the attack may be connected with the 7-day ultimatum Ogbe-Ijoh community gave to the State Boundary Demarcation Committee to replace buildings allegedly destroyed in their area, which came to an end.

Residents of Aladja community living at the boundary with Ogbe-Ijoh were reported to have fled to a safe location in the community to escape from the invading gunmen.

SaharaReporters gathered that the Ogbe-Ijoh warriors invaded the community around 3 am on Friday.

An indigene of Aladja community, Comrade Ighotegwolor Bezi who confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters, said, “No one has been wounded or killed at the moment, but the area is tense.

“We are calling on the relevant security agencies, including the Delta State Government to come to the rescue of the people of Aladja community before the situation gets out of hand.”

He warned, however, that the Aladja people would not fold their arms and allow the attackers to go scot-free.

Members of the Ogbe-Ijoh Warri Kingdom Interest Defensive Forum had alleged unlawful destruction of their buildings in the process of marking out boundary demarcation lines.
