The Chinese Business Community in Nigeria (CBCAN) on Monday backs the prosecution of Geng Quanrong for the murder of Ummukulsum Buhari in Kano State.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that outrage and anger trailed the gruesome murder of the young Nigerian woman, who was on one-year mandatory service to Nigeria with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Popularly known as ‘Ummita’, the deceased was killed at Janbulo Quarters in the Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano.

The deceased was buried around 10 am on Saturday, according to Islamic rites.

The mother of the 23-year-old Nigerian woman revealed that the Chinese national first pushed her down when she opened the door for him after he had banged on it several times. She immediately rushed to her daughter's room where he stabbed her to death.

She subsequently raised the alarm but regretted that efforts to save her failed as she died before they reached the hospital.

A prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, had disclosed that he talked to Ummakulsum Buhari about her relationship with the Chinese who murdered her in Kano.

The teacher said she called him on the phone to ask for his advice on whether to marry the Chinese man.

Daurawa said he told her that not knowing the identity of her lover before marriage was dangerous.

However, CBCAN Head, Mike Zhang condemned the gruesome killing in a statement on Monday, noting that the criminal act should be handled professionally by relevant security agencies.

“The Chinese community in Kano is fully in support of the law taking its proper course.

"The people of China appreciate the hospitality so far received in Kano and will continue to be law-abiding, and contribute to the state’s development.

"We condoled with the family of the deceased, a graduate of Agriculture Science from Kampala University," the statement reads.
