The Nigeria Police Force says it has neutralised two suspected kidnappers in Cross River State.
The two suspects were said to be among three kidnappers who abducted some clerics in August 2022, at Odukpani Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesman for the state police command, Aminu Alhassan, who disclosed the incident on Sunday, recalled how the pastors who were attending a church event in Creek Town were kidnapped by the criminals on the waterways.
Sources said the clerics later paid a ransom of N10 million for their release.
However, the Command's spokesman said the elimination of the criminals was made possible following a covert operation based on credible intelligence, which was led by Awodi Abdulhameed, OC Anti-Cultism and Kidnapping Squad, ACKS, Sting Unit and Op Akpakwu (Government House).
He said, “Our gallant officers have neutralised two kidnap kingpins involved in the kidnap of some pastors, who went to church planting at Creek Town, Odukpani LGA of the state.
“Two couldn’t make it alive, while the third who is now at large, was severely injured during a gun battle. We also want to appeal to locals to be on the lookout for anyone with gunshot wounds in their community.”
