US Court Postpones Judgment On Nigerian Serial Fraudster, Hushpuppi Till November
September 20, 2022

Abbas will now be sentenced on the new date based on the court's own motion, according to Los Angeles judge, Otis D. Wright.

Ramon Abbas, aka Hushpuppi, the infamous Nigerian online fraudster, has once more had his sentencing delayed until November 3, 2022, by the United States District Court for the Central District of California.

On Monday, September 19, the alleged online fraudster and Instagram sensation from Nigeria was scheduled to get his sentence.

Abbas will now be sentenced on the new date based on the court's own motion, according to Los Angeles judge, Otis D. Wright.

SaharaReporters reported on Saturday that Hushpuppi was complimenting American authorities for arresting him and bringing him to justice for his crimes.

Abbas in a handwritten letter quoted by Peoples Gazette recounted his criminal adventures and apologised to his family members for the pains his lifestyle had caused them.

In order to prevent the sentencing from being delayed past September 19, the prosecution had argued that Abbas and his attorneys already knew about all relevant details of the case and were merely trying to stall and thwart the legal system.

However, Abbas' attorneys, led by criminal defence lawyer, Louis Shapiro, claimed the prosecution was attempting to pressure the judge into sentencing their client even though there were still some unresolved concerns.

The prosecution in Central California was also charged by the attorneys with lacking empathy and employing shady methods to support their client's sentence of at least 11 years in prison.

Last Thursday, the judge denied Abbas' request for a postponement and agreed with the prosecution that the final sentencing should take place on September 19 at 1:30 p.m. But with less than an hour left before the scheduled sentencing, the judge decided to postpone it to November 3, as asked by Abbas' attorneys.

Recall that in June 2020, Hushpuppi was detained in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and flown to the United States.

In July 2021, he entered a guilty plea to the charges, and a custody order was issued.

The sentence hearing was initially moved by Judge Wright from February 14 to July 11 and then to September 19 at the counsel’s request.
