The senate stated that Ariwoola had therefore been confirmed as the Chief Justice of Nigeria.

The screening process of the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, by the Senate has been concluded.
The senate stated that Ariwoola had therefore been confirmed as the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
“The nomination of Honourable Justice Olukayode Ariwoola is confirmed as Chief Justice of Nigeria,” the senate said.
President Muhammadu Buhari in June swore in Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
The swearing-in of Justice Ariwoola followed the sudden resignation of Justice Ibrahim Tanko on health grounds.
He had noted that the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria would be screened on Wednesday, 21 September 2022.
However, the motion for the screening was moved by the Senate Leader, Senator Ibrahim Gobir, at the plenary on Wednesday at 11:35am.
The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, had called for the screening exercise to be moved forward from where it was listed on the order paper.
Gobir moved that the Senate should resort into the Committee of the Whole to conduct the screening as well as suspend its relevant rules to admit the acting CJN Ariwoola and his entourage into the chambers.
The motions were approved by the Senate.
The acting CJN Ariwoola and all Justices of the Supreme Court, President of the Court of Appeal, President of the Federal High Court, President of the National Industrial Court and Secretary of the National Judicial Council, thereafter walked into the chambers and took their seats.
The delegation was led by the Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters, Senator Babajide Omoworare.
