Southwest Stooges, a.k.a Governors,  By Bayo Oluwasanmi

Patriotism means standing by your people. It doesn’t mean standing by Buhari. It doesn’t mean standing by APC. It doesn’t mean being subservient to the northern governors.

My anger is understandable. Governors Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State, and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State have abdicated their primary responsibilities for failing to protect life and properties of their citizens. The citizens as unfortunate onlookers are not quite sure whether to laugh or recoil in horror.

Commenting on a video making rounds where Katsina State security outfit obtained approval to bear arms, Governor Akeredolu said: “… Denying Amotekun the urgently needed rights, to legitimately bear arms is a repudiation of the basis of true federalism which we have been clamouring for. That Katsina was able to arm its state security force, with the display of AK-47 means we are pursuing a ‘one country, two systems’ solution to the national question… is a deliberate method of subjugation, which must be challenged…”

“We want to reiterate, that what is sauce for the goose, is sauce for the gander. Ondo State government, under the doctrine of necessity, has decided to fulfill its legal, constitutional and moral duty to citizens of the state, by acquiring arms to protect them… The state government cannot look on while its citizens are being terrorised and murdered with impunity. We will defend our people,” said Akeredolu.

The governors have been missing in action judging by their timid actions to the killings, kidnappings, and destruction of the livelihood of our people by Fulani terrorists. All the six governors have been singing and dancing to the Six Blind Mice theme music. The responses of the southwest stooges, a.k.a governors are nonsensical rantings of lunatic minds. The governors make themselves look like fools to their northern counterparts. The governors cowered behind lies. They are so afraid of Buhari, afraid of Fulani terrorists, afraid of the northern governors, and afraid of the truth.

At every opportunity to defend Yoruba people and for the governors to assert their mandate, they usually resort to drinking away their guilt over their participation in the most evil regime in our history. They go along lock, stock, and barrel with the whims and caprices of Buhari and the demands and dictates of northern governors. When the northern governors sneeze, southwest governors catch cold and fever. When the northern governors ask them to jump, they ask how high! Patriotism means standing by your people. It doesn’t mean standing by Buhari. It doesn’t mean standing by APC. It doesn’t mean being subservient to the northern governors. It means defending and protecting the Yoruba people by any means necessary.

There was no better time to invoke the doctrine of necessity by the governors particularly Akeredolu than when Fulani terrorists massacred worshippers during Sunday service in Owo. It was a missed opportunity for the governor to equip Amotekun with AK-47 and other latest dangerous assault rifles. It was also an opportunity for the feckless and spineless governors to dare Buhari and call off the bluff of northern governors. Instead, they sacrificed their people in order to secure their political futures. Indeed, it was a momentous occasion for Akeredolu and his counterparts to convey with action the mandate given them by Yoruba people: to protect lives and properties. The governors as stooges have become the butt of comedians’ jokes. It’s time for the stooges to come offstage!
