The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress(APC), Bola Tinubu, has admitted that Nigeria still has a lot of work to do to perfect the administration of the country's affairs.
The former Lagos State Governor, who is on a medical trip to London, United Kingdom, added on Saturday in his Independence Day speech that “the time for politics will come soon” in obvious response to the condemnation trailing his absence from the country and perceived failing health.
In his October 1 statement on Saturday, Tinubu said, “On this Independence Day, let us commit ourselves to Nigeria’s unity as well as to our collective improvement. In unity, we must see each other as brothers and sisters regardless of our ethnic, religious or regional diversity. In seeking national improvement, we must join hands in growing the economy, creating jobs, feeding the hungry, educating our youth, caring for the sick and protecting our people and their way of life from evil and misguided foes who seek to destroy all that is good.
“Today, I speak not of politics but patriotism. The time for politics will come soon enough. But the time for and demand of patriotism never fade.”
SaharaReporters on Thursday reported that Tinubu was represented by his running mate, Kashim Shettima as presidential candidates of various political parties in Nigeria converged on Abuja to sign a National Peace Accord ahead of the 2023 general elections.
SaharaReporters also on Monday exclusively reported that Tinubu left Nigeria to see his doctors in London, United Kingdom, a few days before the commencement of political campaigns that kicked off on Wednesday, September 28.
SaharaReporters also reported that according to multiple sources, Tinubu left Nigeria at midnight on Saturday for London.
The former governor was expected to see his doctors at a Central London Clinic last Monday.
“Our principal, Tinubu is sick and tired. He is expected to see his doctors in London today at a Central London Clinic,” a source had told SaharaReporters.
“He left Nigeria 12 midnight on Saturday. He ought to have launched the Presidential Campaign Council today but it was postponed till Wednesday for President Muhammadu Buhari to return from the US. However, it has now been postponed indefinitely. There is mass disaffection within the party currently."
